Lakisha has a successful 23 year career in education with an emphasis on school counseling. After graduating from Winthrop University in South Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Social Science (P-12) certification, she pursued a Master's degree in School Counseling. She later obtained her Educational Specialist degree from the University of West Georgia.
She has been in Georgia for almost 20 years and has held various roles in the education system. She started here in Griffin as a school counselor at A. Z. Kelsey Middle School in 2004 and also worked as a hospital homebound teacher. Over the years, she has held positions as a hospital homebound teacher, lead high school counselor, Work-Based Learning Specialist, interim high school assistant principal, and district coordinator of counseling and career development.
Lakisha's commitment to student success and career readiness is evident in her involvement in various state-level committees and advisory boards, such as the GADOE Dual Enrollment Advisory committee, CTAE Advisory Board, and CTAE Strategic Plan Steering Committee. Her dedication and expertise in career development have been recognized by the Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education, where she received the Career Guidance Award.
In her previous role as a district coordinator, she played a key role in developing and implementing a college and career academy program that focused on providing students with industry certifications, giving them a competitive edge in their chosen fields. Lakisha's passion for improving career development opportunities for students before graduating from high school has been her primary focus for the past 8 years.
Now, as the Assistant Principal of GRCCA (Griffin College and Career Academy), Lakisha is enthusiastic about returning to Griffin to support the students in achieving their college and career goals.
