Aviation Maintenance

The Aviation Maintenance Program has been developed to provide Students with the knowledge and basics skills intended to make them an ideal candidate for Aviation Maintenance Apprentice level employment. While the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technician General Handbook is the primary source of course material, there are additional topics such as Piston & Turbine Engine design and operation, basic sheet metal tools and practices, aircraft ground operation, various aircraft systems, and basic aircraft inspection. Student also have the option to earn hours toward an A&P Letter of Experience.

REQUIRED COURSES:

47.46000 - Fundamentals of Aerospace: This course is designed as the foundational course for the Aviation Maintenance, Flight Operations and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drone) pathways. Students will gain a fundamental knowledge base in aviation history and regulations, the basic principles of flight, aerospace careers, and factors influencing work systems, aerospace technologies, and basic aviation meteorology. These concepts can later be applied to various aerospace occupations. Classroom and lab activities will assure students a thorough understanding of the aerospace environment.

47.46200 - Aviation Maintenance I: Aviation Maintenance I is the second course in the Aviation Maintenance career pathway. Students will build a solid knowledge base in the basics of aircraft maintenance, performance, and design. Classroom and laboratory activities assure a thorough understanding of the aviation environment.

47.46300 - Aviation Maintenance II: Aviation Maintenance II is the third course in the Aviation Maintenance career pathway. Students continue to build and expand their solid knowledge base in the basics of aircraft maintenance, performance, and design. Classroom and laboratory activities assure a thorough understanding of the aviation environment.

47.46400 - Aviation Maintenance III: This course is intended to be entirely a “hands on” time to apply the knowledge learned in the Maintenance I & II courses and develop skills and to enhance the Student’s understanding of and their interest in this aviation career. While specific projects and activities vary from year to year, the basics of sheet metal fabrication, engine maintenance and other areas will be explored.
